Why are the Lawmakers in France upping the Surveillance?
French Lawmakers are going to up their surveillance in social
media and on the internet. “Why?” you ask. Well the answer is blatant; last
year there were terrorist attacks on Charlie Hebdo and the kosher grocery
store, which left 17 people dead. The lawmakers in France are doing this to
keep the citizens safe so that a terrorist attack will not be attempted, or be
intercepted before anyone was injured. As one of the people at Charlie Hebdo
mentioned, “’…You can fight and you can fight terrorism. So I understand the
government, you have to do something. The easiest thing to do is invoke a law.
But maybe it’s a mistake, because if this law is not fair, it’s not the right
answer.”(Rubin)

Connection To Liberty
This article about the French lawmakers upping the surveillance connects to freedom, but only in the opposite retrospect. The French lawmakers are actually taking away the people of Frances' freedom of speech or expressionism. As I mentioned before, Ben Franklin's quote can actually provide a valid example for this connection between the article and the ideal. That argument is that when the people give their liberty up for security; and going back to Franklin's quote, specifically the last line, "Deserve neither liberty nor safety," so does that mean that the French are actually becoming more vulnerable?
